Best places to stay and eat on the Bukit Bali

Updated June 2023

Traveling can be a daunting task for vegans, as it can be challenging to find suitable options beyond fries and white rice. The good news there's a plethora of amazing cafes and restaurants that cater to herbivores or anyone eager to explore the wonders of vegan cuisine. Read on for our guide to the best vegan eats in Bingin, Padang Padang, Uluwatu, Balangan and beyond. Selamat makan!

Lands End

Uluwatu

You know the saying β€œgood things come in small packages” well Lands End perfectly embodies that. A cherished breakfast & lunch spot for expats and travellers in the know who appreciate scrumptious, homemade-style, simple food. Every dish is prepared fresh and with love using the highest quality, mostly organic produce. Choose anything off the menu, it’s all delish! But whatever you do, make sure to leave room for a visit to their dessert fridge. Freshly stocked daily with their famous vegan chocolates and slices. Our adoration for this hidden gem knows no bounds. Old school, simple and unpretentious. We wholeheartedly urge you to visit when you’re here.Β

The Cashew Tree

Bingin

This most beloved Bingin cafe is one of our all time faves. The Cashew Tree, nestled in the heart of Bingin Village, has a laid back backyard garden feel. Comfortable, friendly, it feels like you’re at home. They have a vegan-friendly menu including healthy bowls, salads and burgers (their vegan Big Mac is next level!). Thirsty? Check out their fresh juices and smoothies, or if you’re in need of something a little stronger, their classic Margarita can be ordered by the glass, or jug! While there pop into their boutique, “Toko” – they’ve got a great selection of clothing, accessories and gifts – all products proudly made in Indonesia. Live music?Β  If you’re in town on a Thursday night, don’t miss their famous Thursday night party.Β Β

Alchemy

Bingin

Unless you’ve been living under a rock (or are new to Bali), you’re likely familiar with Alchemy. Their journey began in 2011 in Ubud and in 2023 they expanded to Uluwatu, and we couldn’t be happier! The al fresco garden setting is glorious and their menu innovative – all plant-based, mostly gluten free and nothing cooked/heated above 43 degrees celsius (110 F). We personally love their breakfast and salad bar (customise your own salads or breakfast bowls), their handmade vegan truffles and their house-made oat milk lattes. They also have a wonderful boutique and air-conditioned co-working space. For music, workshops and events – check their IG for whats on.Β Β

Drifter

Bingin

Situated on the bustling corner of Bingin/Padang Padang road, Drifter is definitely worth a visit. The charming Javanese joglo combines a surf/lifestyle shop with their cafe out back. Laid-back “good vibes” abound here. The menu features a selection  vegan options, our favourites – the vegan burrito and the jackfruit tacos. Be sure to visit their fridge for healthy cakes, craft beers along with health tonics like Jamu, Kombucha and kefir for a very happy gut. After food, take some time to shop or check out the art gallery and surfing memorabilia. They also run markets and community events – check their website or instagram for the schedule.

Suka

Uluwatu

Located along the main Uluwatu road, Suka is a bustling and very popular roadside eatery. From breakfast to dinner thier menu offers a diverse array of flavourful cafe-style dishes: smoothie bowls, fluffy pancakes, nourishing salads and more. And their coffee? Perfectly brewed by their expert baristas… it’s so so good! We love this place and highly recommend stopping by for a bite to eat or coffee when here. Its convenient proximity to Thomas Beach makes it the perfect spot to fuel up before or after your beach days.

Salad Lab

Padang Padang

Following the success of their Ungasan cafe, SaladLab expanded in 2023 with a second cafe in Padang Padang. This little eateryΒ  has a “build your own salad” concept. With a diverse range of vibrant salads and vegetables, tempting toppings and delicious dressings. You canΒ  opt to have your selection in a bowl or wrapped up in a tortilla. They also serve refreshing juices and smoothie bowls. Dine in, grab a quick takeaway, or have your order delivered through GoFood – any way you take it, we think you’ll love it.Β

Shaka Riki

Uluwatu

Shaka Riki, Uluwatu’s most loved Japanese restaurant, goes above and beyond with its great selection of vegan dishes. Indulge in their delectable sushi rolls, boasting a remarkable 12 vegan options that are truly heavenly. The Anemone rolls and Daisy rolls are personal favourites, bursting with flavours. Don’t miss out on their baked Miso Eggplant and the Vegan Gyoza. And for the noodle lovers, the Miso Ramen and Vegan Kakiage Soba are delicious. Go here! You won’t be disappointed.Β

The Smoothie Shop

Balangan

The Smoothie Shop is one of those “if you know, you know” kinda places.Β  A delightful vegetarian and vegan-friendly cafe that never fails to entice us when we visit Balangan. Don’t be deceived by their name, as they offer far more than just smoothies. Feast on an assortment of salads, smoothie bowls, heartier dishes, snacks and treats.Β  They pride themselves on using the freshest, highest quality produce. If you’re visiting Balangan, a visit to this cafe is an absolute must-stop.Β

Bali Buda

Ungasan

An organic cafe and health food store, Bali Buda has been bringing quality produce to the health conscious in Bali for over 25 years. Located in the heart of bustling Ungasan, pop in and grab some snacks, a bottle of kombucha, some hummus, nuts and cookies – perfect snacks to throw in your beach bag. Their cafe also offers a huge menu with something for everyone. This place is such a loved institution in Bali, the have 6 stores. FYI – they also support local farmers, community initiatives and environmental sustainability programs across Bali.

Β

Melali

Bingin

Last but not least, we couldn’t overlook ourselves on this remarkable list. As part of your stay, we proudly offer our famous breakfast, featuring an array of options for vegans: Healthy Oat Pancakes, Chia Pudding, Smoothie Bowls, and our Banana Coconut Porridge to name a few.
